By unusual and unique, imagine this: upon showing up for a rare night tour of the University in Coimbra, Portugal you get introduced to your own English-speaking guide because you're the first English speaker to have registered for the tour. Ever. Talk about feeling special.
Imagine taking part in a brand new very early morning tour that finds you at the doors of the Duomo in Florence when the doorkeeper unlocks the cathedral doors before dawn. Picture yourself inside as the light fills the Renaissance landmark hours before the sanctuary fills up with swarms of other tourists. This was a new tour offered a couple of times a week in the summer of 2022.
Or standing on scaffolding built for the restoration experts working on the frescoes inside the Brancacci Chapel. You can see the magnificent artwork from a distance of only a few meters. Not 75 feet below.
It takes dedication and time to find these hidden gems. It's not easy and you're likely not going to have the time to find them on your own.
